Artist Statement

I received my formal art training at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, where I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Textiles.

I am currently working out of a private studio in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  This has been quite a change in environment for me from the hustle of Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre where I was a resident in the Textile Studio.  I am enjoying the stillness of the country, and believe this is reflected in my new work.

My environment and the desire to have it viewed in an altered way inspire the images that I use in my work.  After the paintings are complete, I use free motion embroidery to adhere a translucent fabric over the image.  I then apply a Caustic Soda Shrinking technique that allows me to add texture to my painted fabric.

I strive to create visual depth and texture with my pieces, and enjoy creating one-of-a-kind wall hangings, functional objects and yardage.

My passion for textiles fuels my aspiration to excel in this area.  I not only enjoy the outcome of a finished product, but all of the history and processes that are involved in its creation.
